The end of the year and beginning of the new year are great times for us to think about how to do things better.
We think about all those times we were going to hit the gym, only a couple of miles from the house, and yet something always came up that was more important like a deadline at work or a kid that has a recital or a game.
Here’s 4 ways we can do this differently this year!
- Get specific. Instead of saying, “I’m going to the gym”, try saying “I’m going to make it to the gym atleast 1 time during the week” and start there. Once you got that down, consistently for a couple of weeks, try adding on to 2 times a week.
- Make a plan. For example, “I’m going to get to the gym but on weeks that I have a deadline at work, I’ll get a workout for home that I can do in 10 minutes”. Similarly for family events like recitals or games, you do a “recital-day workout schedule”.
- Why do you want it? Keep this front and centre. Put it on a post-it note and place it where you will definitely see it. A good spot is right at your computer. And find out how badly you want it on a scale of 0 (not at all) to 10 (really need it). It needs to be an 8 or higher or you haven’t hit on something that you really want.
Why do you want to go to the gym? You need your why for this to stick! Is it to feel better? To fit into your clothes? To stay healthy and fend off a potential health risk? It has to be your reason.
- Record it. Find a place to put a consistent check mark and see it every day to positively reinforce how well you did.
